North Queensland Fury FC captain Robbie Fowler has scored a hat trick of honours at the club’s inaugural medal night at Jupiter’s Townsville Hotel and Casino including Player of the Year.

The Fury’s Marquee man also picked up the Golden Boot award with his nine goals for the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 Season and was also recognised by his teammates with the Players’ Player Award.

Fowler played 2272 minutes across 26 matches for the Fury in the club’s debut season.

In his collection of goals, Fowler had two penalties and three consecutive Solo Goal of the Week awards.

Fury Chairman Don Matheson said the 34-year-old had more than proven his worth to the new Hyundai A-League club.

“Robbie’s been fantastic for us,” Matheson said.

“We hoped he’d score goals for us and he did – some of them were among the best seen in the Hyundai A-League this season.”

“The fact his teammates have acknowledged him as their choice of Players’ Player speaks volumes about the sort of person Robbie is.”

Qantas Socceroo David Williams won the Young Player of the Year award.

He was unable to be at the Fury’s medal night because of his commitments with the National squad as it prepares for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Indonesia in Brisbane next week.

Fury coach Ian Ferguson acknowledged the young speedster’s future in the game.

“David has a big future ahead of him and he will be part of the Fury’s Future as well with another two years to play here,” Ferguson said.

“He’s a special talent and it‘s been fantastic to see what he’s capable of this season.”
