Courtesy of Betstar, Mark van Aken and Marcus Stergiopoulos are again butting heads over who’s the more educated punter in a big weekend of football at home and abroad.

MvA  Off the bat Sterg, how many dollars did you win last week?

MS  $77.21, not bad.

MvA And I racked up $123.75 and I’ve still got $50 riding on the Storm with the NRL title, so still two wins away from another $150-plus.

MS  It’s a marathon not a sprint van Aken. What’s on for this weekend?

MvA  So to clarify, we’ve $50 of ‘house’ money to bet with this week, yes?

MS  We sure do, my first wager is $10 on Melbourne Victory to win away at Gold Coast, paying $3.

MvA No Allsopp - for good - no Pondeljak and Ward through injury, I think not. I’m backing a HT-FT double, a draw after 45 then Gold Coast taking the chocolates, it’s paying $5.25 and I’ll match your tenner.

MS  We’ll see champion, the Gold Coast are without Shane Smeltz. I’ve done the same type of bet on Brisbane vs Sydney with the Roar to lead at HT and a draw after 90 minutes, it’s paying $15 and I’m slapping down $10.

MvA  My final one in the A-League is $10 on Adelaide to knock-off the Fury up at Dairy Farmers Stadium at $2.75. I just think the ownership drama might impact them and Adelaide are a wily old fox.

MS  I disagree, their dramas will strengthen their resolve. Let’s look at the EPL, there’s plenty of one-sided games according to the punters this week.

MvA  I like Wolverhampton to grab a point at Sunderland, put me down for $5 at $3.50.

MS  Last of the big spenders V-Man. I’ve done a HT-FT double on Liverpool to be level with Hull at the break with Liverpool winning for $10 at $5.20.

MvA  Decent bet that one… should have cut me off a slice. I’ve done another $5 HT-FT on Man United away to Stoke, with the Red Devils up at HT and FT and I’ve slipped another $5 on United for the straight win at $1.36.

MS  Fivers flying everywhere isn’t there big shot?

MvA  Who’s got the runs on the board Mr Bradford City?

MS  Whatever. Check this one out, I’ve got a three-legged multi-bet with Charlton to beat Exeter down in League One then Doncaster to beat Scunthorpe in the Championship and back down to League Two where I’ve got AFC Bornemouth over Burton Albion - I’ve got $20 on that to pay out $138.

MvA Burton Albion? I know Brighton Hove Albion.

MS  There’s plenty you don’t know  mate.

MvA This is true. My last two bets are $10 on Barcelona to be stitching up Malaga both at the half and full time which will return $16.20. And just because Josh Kennedy is there and he scored midweek in the AFC Champions League, I’ve got my last $5 on Nagoya Grampas to draw with the more fancied Kashima Antlers in the J-League at $3.45.

MS  There you go - I can collect up to $370 and take the lead in our little competition.

MvA Mine only add up to just shy of $150, but the difference is that I’ll actually collect!

Mark and Marcus are having a punt for a good cause - the Johnny Warren Football Foundation. At the end of the season their winnings will be donated to the group that’s grooming Australia’s football future.
