February 1984 - Born in Buenos Aires.

October 2001 - Debuts at age 17 for Boca Juniors.

May 2003 - Opts out of the FIFA World Youth Championships with Argentina to concentrate on club commitments. 

August 2004 - Is critical in the Argies’ Olympic Gold winning team.

December 2005 - Crosses the border to join Corinthinas for £13.7 million, and signs a five-year, £6.85 million contract through Media Sports Investments and wins the league’s best player award, the first non-Brazilian winner in 30 years.

August 2006 - Despite controversial negotiations with Media Sports, who own his contract, he joins West Ham United for £12 million.

May 2007 - Nets the winner against Man United, a stunning result which saves the Hammers from relegation. 

August 2007 - After protracted legal battles arrives at Old Trafford in a complicated loan-deal that included legal action. 

December 2008 - Scores his first hat-trick for United, a quartet of goals in the Red Devils’ 5-3 League Cup win over Blackburn.

July 2009 - After falling out of favour with Fergie, becomes the first player in a decade to switch from United to Man City for a reported fee of £47 million.
